MBTI Blog Search Terms

The Sensing preference in me is raging tonight! I'm having fun with Google Analytics tonight. I usually check my blog stats daily (okay, more than that to be honest) and I always enjoy which sites refer the most visitors.

These days Alltop.com is the biggest source of my traffic (Thanks Alltop!). If you haven't checked Alltop out yet, put it on your to-do list. It's like a meta-blog for tons of great topics (psychology, careers, celebrities, trivia, politics, diabetes, autism....I could go on and on). I also see decent traffic from PunkRock HR, Brazen Careerist, and HRM Today (Thanks, guys!).

Tonight, though, I found an amazing source of blog data. On Google Analytics, you can see which search terms people are using to find your blog. What a wonderful tool!

I am now using this information to tell me a few things. The most popular topics that bring readers to my blog are:

  • MBTI Activities/Exercises (we continually post on this topic)
  • MBTI Ice Breakers
  • MBTI Humor (we post these as we uncover them)
  • MBTI preferences of politicians (Specifically, Barack Obama, John McCain, and Sarah Palin...and not one search for Joe Biden...interesting)
  • MBTI and famous people/celebrities
  • MBTI and Batman (we've got you covered in this post)
  • Jon and Kate Plus 8 MBTI Types (there are TONS of searches for this!!!)
  • MBTI and Lost (posts on this will begin again when the new season starts)
  • MBTI and In the Grip (post about this topic here)

That information tells me a lot. It tells me what my readers want to hear, and gives me motivation to continue writing on those topics.

It also appears readers want to learn about the following:

  • MBTI Networking events
  • MBTI and Project Management
  • MBTI and Career Counseling Strategies
  • MBTI vs. DiSC
  • MBTI Team Building Activities
  • MBTI and fitness/exercising
  • MBTI and Decision Making
  • MBTI workshops
  • MBTI and other assessments

I hear you! These are all topics I will be covering in this blog over the next few months! I look at these search terms as a way to better understand what my readers are looking for on the web. If you would like to reach out personally, please feel free to email me a question or a topic you would like to learn more about!

I do have to say a few search terms made me laugh:

  • A few people searched for "FOMO- Fear of Missing Out" which is a term my friend coined (and I blogged about). Is word spreading that fast about FOMO?
  • Free Authentic MBTI (sorry folks, it doesn't exist)
  • Angry ISTJ (doesn't every type get angry?)
  • "How to throw off a MBTI test" (Why would you want to?)
  • "If you wanted to improve your weakest points, what would they be?" (Admitting you have weaknesses is the first step!)
  • "MBTI junk" (That could mean so many things)
  • "MBTI-like chit chat" (huh?)
  • "MBTI Playboy" (For real?!)
  • "McBreakthrough" (I don't know what that is, but I like it!)
  • "Myers-Briggs Type and dog" (I'm sorry to say I believe my dogs have distinct personality types too)
  • "MBTI and guessing someone's type based on their picture" (I quit!)

If you write a blog, I highly suggest setting up Google Analytics to see what search terms bring people to your site. Please come back and share your oddest search term. I'll keep you updates on what I'm seeing here. Let your Sensing preference go wild!!!

Interesting!

Thank God for those stats!! As most readers seem to be shy (or lazy) about leaving comments on mine, I would feel like a total loser if it weren't for the stats.

And I'm glad I'm not the only one who checks them often. :-)

My biggest source of traffic is from PALIN HAIR, right now.

Before that, it was BILLY MAYS HEALTH INSURANCE.

No one finds me when they're looking for HR stuff, though!

@Laurie- hilarious! BTW, my next vlog will be in a Palin-do and Palin-like glasses. Prepare yourself.

Apparently the Palin glasses (Kazuo Kawasaki 704 Series) are drawing big numbers on other sites too. I'm going to name drop her glasses and see if I get a bump. :)
